Would it be feasible for cities to set up large parking facilities?

All ready done, come to Nottingham in the UK. We have park and ride there are large parking lots around the city edge. You park your car there and the parking ticket for the use of the parking lot is also your bus ticket into the city center. The ticket also is your return ticket to the parking lot, two or three hours, whatever or all day if you work in the city, and off you go home. Easy peasy, also the buses have the advantage of priority bus lanes and at some junctions where the bus has to turn across traffic, the traffic lights will change to give the bus priority. The original idea years ago was to reduce congestion, on street parking, and take pressure off the multistory car parks that were becoming saturated with all day parking. The Nottingham park and ride has been going since the 90s so it is not only feasible its here and now, appearing at a parking lot near you.
